Question on marbling. Gonna try my first today. I see some paint with something first.
Is this just to get a different color to the rod?
If I am doing a white rod and happy with marbling on the white do I need to paint for any reason? I think not but had to ask.
I searched the forums for marbling and only got 1 hit. Must be a better way.

No you don't have to do anything, if you wish you can marble on just about anything.

A lot of the time I will wrap a section with metalic thread or add glitter or just over the blank the way it is, it all depends on what affect you are looking for.

If you want the white to be part of the background, then no. If you're trying to add a base color, then mask and spray paint that section only. I always lay a clear base coat down first, then dab tinted epoxy into it. If you're using Testors, drain the liquid off so only the pigment is left in the jars. Works better. If using powder, you don't need much to achieve your color. If I could suggest something, practice on a wooden dowel first. Do several sections. See how dabbing the colored epoxy on and just letting it roll looks. (Take a toothpick and "pull" some of the color to attain some fine detail.) Then do another section with the same colors and apply some heat and watch how it rolls out more.(Looks completely different.) I like to lay a piece of foil out on the table and after mixing my base epoxy, dump dime size dollops out and mix the different colors with separate toothpicks and then use them to apply colors. When done, throw the foil away...easy clean-up! Add a little CP to some of your colored epoxy and see how it thickens and gets stringy...lay some on a section and see what a cool effect you get.

**Word of caution: less is more with marbling! Don't overdo it! Start with a few dabs and add more if you need to.**

By chance do you hav e a pic with metallic on the rod/ background? I fully plan on practicing on an old blank /broken rod or 2 I have around.

Well it worked out nicely. Looks a bit like a Hawaiian shirt and I need to not let colors run together. For the life of me I can not figure how to load a photo. I can log into the photo section I just don't see a upload button. Checked my photos and all over.

It took a couple of weeks for my Upload button to appear after registration.

That's because your web browser had cached an earlier page and was bringing it up each time you went to the site. Once it refreshed the page (which you can do manually) you got the latest page since your registration.

The photo page software simply isn't capable of the selective anomalies that some here keep suggesting. In the past couple weeks, nearly all that stated they didn't have an "upload" button on the photo page weren't actually registered there.

Everybody mentions Testors paint for marbling. It's getting hard to get where I live, so I need to ask, has anyone used Tamiya enamel for marbling?
