Built a lot of Saltwater Spin Rod, but this is a first for me, A customer brought in a Custom SW Spin rod and with what appears to have Flock Heated Tubing for Butt and fore grip.
He also brought a matching blank (moon blank) for me to make a matching rod. My question is the shrink tubing installed right to the blank or does it require some sort of arbor or a additional gluing process. Is the heating process strong enough to withstand the saltwater environment. Used heat shrink tubing to repair damaged EVA and Hyplon but never for stand alone grips. Thanks Rich Kline CR Re: Installing Flockedck Heat Shrink Tubing

I have used quality heat shrink for stand alone surf rod grips for years with nothing underneath and no issues at all . Make sure you clean the blank in that area well before slipping the heat shrink over it and applying heat though. I never experienced any slippage at all but if you choose heat shrink where the diameter is slightly too large compared to the blank you will have issues .
After thoroughly heating, (Got to keep the heat moving constantly) I then take that heated section and drench it in cold water to instantly solidify it instead of waiting for it to slowly cool down. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
