I can’t see how Anglers Resource’s GPS system isn’t simple enough for any builder. It doesn’t even require downloading an app. It’s a few questions everyone needs to know about their build, and voila, guide size and spacing are calculated. The tiny bit of fine tuning a builder can choose to do the spacing is pretty inconsequential. Re: Microwave guides

I love and use Fuji guides all the time. Fuji will sell me whatever guide and however many I want. I'm not coerced into buying a full set of anything as with the Microwaves. This has long been a bone of contention with me. I like Microwaves just fine, just not full sets. Re: Microwave guides

As an example, for a Shimano Stradic 2500 using standard Y series calls for 8 guides and slowly reducing down to a size 8. If I’m using a 2500 reel, then using a 25, 20, 16 reduction train and ending with a size 8 running guide seems excessive. I can see it just for spacing out the choke and first running guide, but not for a complete guide train as it’s advertised to do. unless I’m using it improperly. Re: Microwave guides

Evan,
Forgive me if you already know this: There are Two Calculators on the Angler's Resource site for guide layout: 1) KR Concept Placement Software (orange color tab) and 2) The Original GPS (green tab) I use the KR Concept Placement Software on my spinning rod builds. Depending on the kind of rod you are building, and line you are going to use, I agree with you that the reduction train and running guide size is large. Try the KR calculator.
