Look on the NERBs site for their shade packs, all those are still Madeira thread as far as I know. Re: Madeira thread

I went to the Madeira website and it gave me the impression that it was primarily a sewing thread site . I have read post here that suggest sewing thread is not ideal for wraps because of the coating used on the thread to allow it to pass through material smoothly . Because of this , I would have been hesitant to use Madeira thread but , if folks on the NERB site use it , it must work well for wraps . Is the coating problem with sewing thread just something I dreamed up or does Madeira thread not have this coating ? As usual , I'm confused and would appreciate any help yall could give me . Thanks .

Many successfully use Madeira Poly Neon, especially for decorative wraps since the range of colors is so vast. The only caution about it is that CP should be used not only to retain the on the spool color, but to avoid any distortions to the epoxy that might be caused by the lubricant in the thread. As long as you use CP it will be fine.
I don''t think there is any coating on the thread, but there is lubricant in the thread. Probably silicone. One thing you can do if still concerned is to buy a spool and do a test wrap , using CP, and you will be pleased. I tried a Madeira rayon once and it was a disaster. Even CP couldn't retain the color. Re: Madeira thread

People doing decorative wraps like it because it comes in a lot of different colors and shades. It is an embroidery thread that’s coated with a silicone lubricant for use in high speed embroidery machines. Thus, rod rod builders use with color preserver to prevent problems with the epoxy finish. If you don’t use color preserver you may have problems with fish eyes. So there are trade offs.

I've used Madeira in several ways. Color preserver is a must! Re: Madeira thread

Thanks all . CP will cure the problems but I'm not even going to get into whether to use it or not . Way too much controversy :)
Thanks again. Ron Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
