Is it better to epoxy before i wrap on a hook keeper or is that redundant? Re: Epoxy before adding hook keeper?

I have never done it, and do not see a need for it. One does not put epoxy down before wrapping guides. At least I've never heard of it. Re: Epoxy before adding hook keeper?

Approach it just as you did your other guides. Re: Epoxy before adding hook keeper?

I’ve done it both ways, but more not than do. The reasoning was to protect the blank where the hook sits, especially the clip on style of hook keeper where the hook has to slide under the clip, rubbing against the blank in doing so. Re: Epoxy before adding hook keeper?

Francis,
I attach the hook keeper at the same time as I wrap the guides. When I apply epoxy the epoxy coats the thread wraps of the hook keeper on each end if a double foot keeper, or on the single wrap if a single foot hook keeper. If a double foot keeper thead epoxy is placed on the blank in between each foot to protect the blank. I have never seen any reason to do otherwise. Re: Epoxy before adding hook keeper?

i do an under wrap wiith some hook keepers to avoid scratching the blank. . On rods i use for Tx rigs ill put the decal right above the hook keeper so there is another coat of finish to keep heavy tungsten weights banging against the blank. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
