New rod builder and I just made a mistake but I think I can fix it. I would like to know if this is an option for me. I'm building a NFC Steelhead rod.

I glued on a carbon fiber grip that has the top to fit a casting reel. I'm using an Alps exposed spinning reel seat. The OD of the grip is 1.06. I can't find a trim ring to fit the top of the grip and the bottom of the Alps spinning real seat. I'm thinking if I get a rubberized cork ring and turn it down to the 1.06 size it will cover up the top of the grip then I can put a regular trim ring (alps TRS) on top of the rubber cork ring and that will fit the bottom of the Alps reel seat.

Does this make sense or do I need to clarify?

Will this work or do you guys have any other suggestions? I could aways cut the grip off and start over also.

If I am interpreting what you are asking about correctly, the use of cork rings as "ramps" off the ends of the seat should work just fine.

whats the exact seat your using? uplocking or downlocking?

sounds like your trying to plug off the top of the grip towards the reelseat, basically making it part of the grip then using the trim ring to transition to the reel seat. i dont see why it wouldnt work.

It's is an uplocking alps seat. The foam on top of the rear grip is exposed and I can't find a trim ring with the correct dimensions of the grip.
