Can you use heat or boiling water to loose metal parts glued with U-40 Rod Bond? Or is there another way to loosen the parts? Re: How to loosen reels seat glued with rod bond?

You can try. Boiling water is safer as it doesn't tend to ruin the epoxy that binds the blank fibers as a heat gun might.

I have used boiling water to remove many reel seats. Re: How to loosen reels seat glued with rod bond?

I would not have thought that boiling water (~212*F) would be sufficient to soften the types of epoxy commonly used in rod building. While most epoxies are considered “low-temp” (<150*F), even though basically plastic, I would have thought considerably more heat would be required (>300*F) to soften them. Thanks for the info Phil. I have also used boiling water or a heat gun to remove reel seats. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Is this a salvage job removing the seat from a broken rod or do you want to replace the old reel seat with a different one? Have you removed the rear/fore grip or not? There are different options available.

It is actually a fly reelseat with wood insert. Actually the center of metal part is slightly off center. Actually, I am the only person seeing it. I wish to have it perfect. Thanks for the answers. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
