Hey now fellas. I fish off the bank of the river for lake sturgeon. I currently have a 8’ sturgeon rod from a Shimano and a 8’ NFC being built for me. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a shorter blank (say 7’) that is a medium heavy (or heavy I guess) and can do 4oz no problem. I’d prefer a fast or extra fast tip.
So far all I found was the bushido blank from American Tackle. I don’t have a set price point, but keep it under $250 for the blank. I know I don’t need to spend that much but I just want to see options. Thanks guys, I’m gonna keep looking too. Re: 7’ mh/h extra fast or fast able to do 4oz

While I have no experience with such blanks I did a quick search on Rainshadow's web site and found several options in there RX6 E glass live bait rods that would probably fit what you're looking for. While their named power doesn't fit what you're looking for, their specs certainly look like they would. They're heavy blanks, but I'm guessing you're going to have the rod in a rod holder until you detect a bite, so rod weight may not be that big of an issue. That’s exactly what I was looking for!
I like the sglass/rx7 option as well Re: 7’ mh/h extra fast or fast able to do 4oz

Look at the CTS BayMaster - 7'0" 1.5-4.5 Oz
It favors the higher lure weight. Herb CTS [ctsfishing.com] Re: 7’ mh/h extra fast or fast able to do 4oz

I built a sturgeon rod for my buddy on a rainshadow RX6/E-Glass blank (RCLB70L). Max weight listed is 3 oz, but it would have no problem with heavier weights for bait fishing on the bottom. He says it has a nice fast tip for bite detection, which I am told is important for sturgeon at the rod is in a holder and you need to see the bite. One of these years I will try for them myself. Peter has the best idea, unless things have changed a lot, lake sturgeon are pretty small compared to what many of us on the west coast are used to. The tip on the JDGLB70L will be much more in line with what you need. I think the CTS will have to stiff a tip if it carries the higher weights the best as Herb noted, the sturgeon's bite can be very soft. Re: 7’ mh/h extra fast or fast able to do 4oz

You are 100% correct, they are not nearly as big as white sturgeon on the west coast,. However they are still a blast to fish, and it’s cool to hold something that is essentially prehistoric Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
