To me, that may be where they make the most sense. This photo shows my 9 year old son Liam (who weighs 50 lbs.) reeling in the first of several sharks he caught from the beach on live lady fish and cut sting rays. While he is wearing a belt, he does not need it. Thanks to the spiral wrap he is easily able to control the rod under load. In addition, no gimbal is needed on these rods. Instead tbey sport a very comfortable Fuji mushroom butt cap and as you can see even a kid can control it on big fish. I am only holding on to the rod to keep it from getting dragged into the ocean on a heavy drag setting. Blank is an MHX SW70H-MHX...Fuji heavy duty reel seat and Alconite guides. Wrap is a modified O'Quinn that stacks line left to make guiding it with your rod hand thumb easy on the non-level wind Penn Baja Special. Great set up and casts shockingly well, too.
