I have some Flexcoat I bought 10 years ago.
It's contained in a pair of syringes. It looks like it may have yellowed a bit but, not having some fresh stuff, perhaps that is its' normal color. I coated a test wrap and came out good. It had ~ 45 mins of working time. It leveled out good. Within eight hours it had dried enough that I couldn't make a finger print in it. I'm inclined to use it. Thoughts? Re: Flexcoat shelf life

There is no shelf life on epoxy from a functional standpoint.

The only issues with that finish will be cosmetic. We say that you shouldn't buy a quantity that you can't use in one year. Flex Coat Company Professional Rod Building Supplies www.flexcoat.com Re: Flexcoat shelf life

Jim,
Over time - most epoxies yellow. Some a bit, some a lot. That happens whether it has been mixed up and hardened, or if it is still in the bottle. But, no shelf life on the epoxy - if it has not been mixed. If you have crystals in one or the other or both containers of epoxy, remove the cap on the non metal container, put it in the Microwave, and zap it for a few seconds at a time until the crystals are gone and the mix is thin. Once you have nuked the non metallic container - it will remain in that state for a prolonged period of time. Best wishes. Re: Flexcoat shelf life

Well, as others have said, it can yellow in the bottle. However, it is important to keep in mind that you are cutting it in half with the part A and then applying it in a very thin coat. Many times you will only see this on light color blanks and wraps, butt now I am getting in the weeds... Flex Coat Company Professional Rod Building Supplies www.flexcoat.com Re: Flexcoat shelf life

Also, beer appears amber in the glass, but spill some on the counter where it spreads out and it'll appear clear. The thicker the cross section the more amber or yellow these epoxies are going to appear. Most of the time, unless you're using white thread, you won't notice it on the rod. .......... I cannot remember the last time, if ever, a bottle of epoxy hardener had no hint of yellowing. It's just the way of the world, however . . .;
I admit buying a fresh supply of the smallest quantity available to make invisible wraps. Re: Flexcoat shelf life

Sometimes epoxy companies use a white bottle for the part B to mask this yellowing. Flex Coat Company Professional Rod Building Supplies www.flexcoat.com Re: Flexcoat shelf life

Are we saying that when one part of the epoxy tints or discolors it should be OK to use. I have a few smaller bottles like this. Never openerd. Re: Flexcoat shelf life
