Who is the new owner of RBO....and what kind of changes (if any) can we expect?
Those are some mighty big shoes to fill...
Thank you Tom for all your support and knowledge though out the years.
I'm sure well still see you around.

Mentioned in the latest issue. No details there. But, look at the very bottom of the website.

Click on webmaster on the homepage at the very bottom. Assuming that is the new owner.

The rod building forum that could not last turned out to be the only one that really did and it did for 20+ years. Good job Tom. I did notice in the mag that it said the sale does not take place until the end of this month.

Tom, assuming this is true, I for one, want express my sincere gratitude, for all you have done for us rod builders! Without this site, we all would be basically on our own. I have learned more out our craft, on this site, then could be gained by doing it alone!

I wish you all the very best in what ever future endeavors you chose to pursue..

Please, please tell e that it is not Ewaniki taking over !!

PS: Dennis you will never "unionize" me!

There is one thing I hope the new owner will NOT do and that is follow the lead of the other few remaining rod building forums and fill this place with 'pop-up' advertising. I think that is one reason why those other forums only get a post or two every other day. They became so annoying that they just were no longer good places to share rod building info. Half the time you could not read the posts for the pop-up ads springing up everytime you tried to read the next paragraph. So what I am saying is that there is no reason to mess with success and ease of use that this forum has always focused on. I hope if the new owner is reading these posts he or she will take this one to heart. It does not take much to ruin a good thing.

I would agree that is all about revenue at least on the other forums. This one never went beyond the simple sponsor listings to the left. No pop-ups, GIFs, or any of that stuff cluttering up the forum. I think that Tom being a rod builder made the difference in keeping this one free from all that junk. I would guess that the other forums are owned by corporations or people who are not actually rod builders. I did not see anything in the magazine announcement that the magazine or the Expo had been sold. I hope not.

Mike, for a while this site has been getting one or two posts every other day..it comes in spurts but the spurts are getting far apart..maybe as a forum ages the only value it has left is advertising.

Ben,

This site gets dozens of posts per day, every day. If you're only seeing one or two every other day you need to check your settings. The forum averages about 75 posts per day. Remember, they do not pop back to the top when a response is made. Your settings may not be alerting you to new posts. Or perhaps you are considering new topics rather than number of actual posts made for topics and responses.

I just ran an administration page count of posts from January. There were just at 2200 posts made that month. I could not find any single day that did not receive at least 45 posts. Some days were as high as 100. This forum remains as active now as it was in its first year and thereafter. And for the record, there has never been a single day in this forum's 20 year history when it did not receive any posts.

Something is wrong. I look in every day and see many new posts. As of about 11AM today I already see about 25 new posts so far. How many do you see?

I should have known this but as the administrator I always operate in the threaded list view. If you only use the default setting you will only see new topics, not the new posts under existing topics.

Go into your Control Center and select Forum Settings. Then under Display List hit the option box and select "All messages in a topic, threaded." This will enable you to automatically see and be alerted to all new posts as they are made.

Right. If you operate in the default view you only see the new topics as they are created and then to see the new posts you have to click on the topic header manually to see the drop down list of new posts. The threaded view is much better IMO.

Tom, I thank you for all you have done. Had you or all the very nice and polite rod builders on this forum not been here to help me, sometimes answering the same ol' questions new builders ask, I would not be where I am today. I am only a member of two forums that have to do with fishing (the other has to do with reel repairing) and I have no time for cut downs or people making me feel inferior because I was a newbie. I appreciate all of the respect I've gotten and I respect those who know more than me and are wiser. I hope you get some fishing in! Time is short on this earth. Very short.
