Thread Sizes

I'm experimenting a bit with thread sizes.

I started with nylon Pac Bay size C, and just wrapped some replacement guides in size A.

The application is for fly rods for fresh water and inshore saltwater; and baitcasters and spinning rods for inshore saltwater.

Just conversationally, what do most people use for thread size, and does it really make a difference in strength and performance?

I appreciate any input -

Thanks

I use size A for everything except for saltwater rods that are used on head boat where the rod is laid on the rail when fighting big fish. The thicker thread helps to cushion the rod a bit.

Take care

I use a lot of hitena thread. They offer a lot of size B which I really like. I was out of building for awhile and last used Gudebrod size A exclusively. For me the size B hitena is the closest thing I have found to the Gudebrod. It is slightly larger but all the characteristics I was used to with the Gudebrod seem to be more present in the hitena than any other thread.

Tom
I only use size "00" nylon for fly rod runners. They produce a lower profile - neater appearance.
I'll use size "A" for stripper on saltwater rods. "00" for lighter freshwater rods.

G loomis used B thread back in the day on their rods according to their contract wrappers. I have one roll of red D thread, used to cut EVA, I use A thread for everything, but fly rods.

I use Prowrap for everything including my rods for goliath groupers. for my heavier rods I will wrap the guide 3 times. I just like the look of size A over the larger thread.
