Really quick, how long do most of you wait to apply the second coat of Flex Coat Hi Build. Do you normally wait 24 hours, or is applying the second coat ok 6-8 hours later. Just curious what most of you do. Have always waited 24 hours, but not sure if that was overkill. Re: Flex Coat Re Coat

No ridged schedule, but anytime after the first coat is no longer tacky. Sometimes wait a day or two, never any longer. Re: Flex Coat Re Coat

Great question! You can re-coat in 6 to 8, no problem. It is a good idea to just wait until it is tack free which is in that window with an ambient temperature of 72 degrees F. You can make sure it is tack free without touching your rod by keeping the excess finish poured out on aluminum foil. If it is cured then your rod is cured. 24 hours to 6 months. They all work well.

Agree with Roger. I've done it all and never had any problems. On old work be sure the surface is clean and free of contaminants, and scuffing it up a little is recommended. Re: Flex Coat Re Coat

Actually, I have done it a year or more after a rod has been finished. I go over the rod, if it has been used with Windex glass cleaner to clean the rod.
Then, I will let it dry for a couple of days and go ahead and apply the flex coat. I don't use anything on the finish except Windex. I don't scuff it or anything else and have never had any issues with the flex coat lifting or being in trouble in any way. Best wishes Re: Flex Coat Re Coat

I used to agonize, and I still do a little, over when to put on the second coat. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
