I am looking for a rod blank to pull up the big Goliath groupers out of the rocks and pilings also want to use it for sharks. I want a rather long blank 9 foot minimum I’d rather have a 10 footer I will be chucking out heavy baits and heavy lead sinkers from the pier Re: Pier rod for giant fish

Keep in mind the rod is a lever, and the longer it is, the more advantage is given to the fish. Re: Pier rod for giant fish

Yes that is true but I need the length to keep the line away from the pilings to keep it from fraying Re: Pier rod for giant fish

The trouble with fishing from shore is you usually pull fish into, not away from, rocks and pilings. If you are fishing from open, sandy beaches you could consider a shorter rod, which greatly improves your leverage in dealing with and controlling a big fish Re: Pier rod for giant fish
