I just got asked to build a 13wt fly rod. Since all my limited experience ends at a 10wt rod I built years ago, I'd appreciate any and all input on make, grip, guides, etc. Thanks Re: 13WT FLY ROD

Find out what the customer is going to be fishing for and how. Length is generally shorter if the target is short casts for large fish. You don't want to hand the fish a long lever unless you have to (for casting).

I just finished building myself a 9'0", 4pc 13wt fly rod on a custom CTS taper. Just like building a 10wt. Same REC reel seat (RSLL). Same REC Recoil Cerecoil #20 stripper. Same rest of guides - #4 REC Recoil single foot runners.

Will this be a one-hand casting fly rod, and how far do you anticipate it will be required to cast? Re: 13WT FLY ROD

Customer might intend on fishing for Orcas. 13 wt. Yikes. Certainly not for brook trout. Who makes a 13 wt line? Re: 13WT FLY ROD

Phil, I'll ask him and get back to you.
Dave, If he's fishing for Orcas, I'm going to demand to see his video. Do you gaff them or net them? Re: 13WT FLY ROD

Maybe he doesn't know either? It's always best to get these details ironed out early to minimize disputes later. Re: 13WT FLY ROD
