Real seats: how durable are graphite reel seats?

How durable are graphite real seats from the major rod building suppliers?

So far, I have built my salmon rods with graphite real seats (typically rated 10-25/30 lbs line).
They still are fine. On the other hand; I have a commercial rod bought 25 years ago, where the real seat started malfunctioning to such extent that I replaced it.
I'm not sure whether the reason for this was that commercial rods uses cheaper components, or due to graphite real seats in general having a certain life expetancy.

Any thoughts on this?

A lot of times it has to do with how the reel seat was installed, like a house it depends on the foundation under the house. I have never had a failure in 35 years.

Most of the seats you mention were patterned after Fuji seats. They looked the same, but few matched the Fuji quality, at that time...

The major suppliers you see listed in the sponsor column have upped their game tremendously in the past decade. You won't have a problem with any of them. There are, sadly, some really cheap copy-cat seats out and about, so stick with seats made by the companies in the sponsor list and you'll be fine.

I have used Fuji with my rods, and with no sign of problems.
The experince with the factory rod probably fall within the category of cheap replicas.
Thank you for the responses.

Audin, what are the details of the "malfunction?" The details could make a big difference in the solution.

The locknut became very hard to turn.
I did replace the complete grip/handle - it is ok now.

Yes, I've seen this on my old cheapies, too. Also, many of them have plastic hoods which in time break. The Fujis I use have been "bullet-proof," and I expect will last long after I'm gone.

No issues with the rods I build with sponsor built components. Production rods, thats a different story. I have had the locknut give me issues on several rods.
