I went to the website and believe it or not most of the rods they sell are not ice rods . They actually have a designated Fly Rod that's just as short , the others are spinning rods and baitcasting rods . The reviews are 'Off the charts' positive but they average $150.00 a piece .
As they say to each their own . Not going to work for me , I think there are better options for a surf rod but I would try one out if it was late at night and I knew nobody was around to witness me testing it out. Re: are steel rods comming back

I could be mistaken, but it seems I remember this configuration from my childhood, a long time ago. Anyone else? Re: are steel rods comming back

Michael, you're right. This rod type was made by Waltco in the late 40's-early 50's and called the Stub Caster. It was actually sold as a "tackle box" sized rod which could be used for casting, trolling, or jigging. The rod was sold with an offset casting rod handle, and was available in 2 styles - one with a horizontal coil like the Emmrod, and one with a larger, vertical coil. Search for "Stub Caster fishing rod" on the 'Net and you'll find quite a few pictures. Re: are steel rods comming back

I remember having a steel fishing rod in the late 40s. I think it was about 4-5' long and had a baitcasting reel with green nylon line. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
