I am building a 11.6' Lamiglas Honey surf rod. My under wraps are Metallic Silver, size A. I'm over wrapping them with Fish Hawk untreated Teal, size D. Will the color be more transparent and metallic like if I just epoxy without CP? That is the look I'm after. I want the teal to be transparent and metallic looking. Try a test sample to see if it gives you the look you want. Re: Epoxy on untreated thread over a metallic underwrap

It's called a "Candy Apple" wrap, although in this instance it'll be teal instead of red. We covered these in RodMaker a few years ago.

Especially on a surf rod. Thank you Tom. Re: Epoxy on untreated thread over a metallic underwrap

Hello All.
I think this is the article Tom was speaking of. V / I FEATURE PG 21/1 Guide Wraps, Candy Apple. By Jim Wardell. 12 Tight Wraps & Tighter Lines. Bob, New Bern, NC. Re: Epoxy on untreated thread over a metallic underwrap

Could someone post a picture of this wrap? I'm assuming that the metallic is epoxied first then the colored thread is wrapped and epoxied.

I'm almost finished with the rod and I will post pics. Something I have noticed is my untreated teal fish hawk thread has the really bad fuzzies, and everything looked good until I put on the epoxy.. I've used this thread three times and in my rod building adventures, it has fuzzied on me every time I've used it. I have to put down an extra coat of epoxy to cover them up, even though I have tried to get rid of them before laying previous coats down. When I use regular NCP thread I have zero problems and the epoxy lays down perfectly smooth, so it has me wondering if it's me, the brand or the type of thread. Here are some pics of the finished rod. For a 45 year old Lami, I'm very happy the way it turned out. My skills are improving little by little with every rod. Thanks to all of you, of course.
