50 Year old rod question

All.

I have a rod that was built in Florida about 50 years ago. The rear grip is wrapped with a rope or paracord type of material. The owner wants it redone. Any ideas of what was used back then?

Just rewrap with paracord.

Roger,

It may be what I have to do, but it is not what he wants...Trying to do my due diligence before I tell him...

Most likely just nylon cord. Cut the end and see if it is a style with a core and a cover. If not, it's likely to just be nylon cord.

Tom,

Wish I could post a picture of it. I cut it and it almost feels like leather, but it has a core and at some pint was covered with some sort of protector...

You can post a photo on the photo page. You will have to register there and log in as it is a different website, but that might help us determine what you have.

You said paracord is not what he wants, what does he want?

Tarred Twine was most likely used

Rawhide lacing, the same stuff used to tie up your boots years ago.

He wants what was originally on it. Looking back at the pieces it looks like nylon cord as Tom posted. I am working with the customer to have him decide on new twine or para-cord...Thanks for all your time..
