I need your suggestions on picking a good handle for a downrigging rod. I want a handle that is easy to be removed from the rod tube when trolling and does not get stuck in the tube and is easy to remove. I have looked at both the slick grips made by Batson and the Carbon Fiber Grips and it seems like Slick Grips are more for saltwater with a big "OD" and to big for a lake freshwater rod. Would the Carbon Fiber be a better choice for a grip that can easily be removed? What would be your choice for the best grip setup for this type os setup be it Carbin Fiber, Cork or Slick grip, etc etc etc. Slick Grips might have a bigger "OD" but if that is that best it would not be out of the question for this setup so just suggest what you think would be best. A carbon skinned grip would work fine. And with a little creativity you might find other materials or handles used for other purposes that might work just as well.

My carbon tube grips come out slick, I also put a long enough foregrip to have a good hold on the rod when I'm removing it. 5 inches usually. The .980 inch ID tube fits reel seats to 20 mm. in a trigger seat. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/11/2020 06:32PM by Spencer Phipps. Re: Best non stick rod handles.

Glenn, Thru the years of ordering stock, I have mispurchased some slick butt tubes much too small for the Bunkerspoon rods I build for use here on Raritan Bay. With a length of 10" , an O.D.of 1.133' and an I.D. of 0.800"- 0.834" these would be perfect for your use on fresh water trolling rods. They are new , come with trim rings (if you need them). Color is black plastic or nylon and have a slight taper to them. Please send me an email if interested. Dennis J. Danku (Sayreville,NJ) Re: Best non stick rod handles.

Sure would Dennis from what you said these grips sound about right for the rod. Glenn McMurrian Re: Best non stick rod handles.

Just built 2 Rain shadow dipsy rods with slick grips. They are great. Going to cut the EVA grips off my remaining down rigger rods this winter and replace them with Slick Grips. Re: Best non stick rod handles.

Bill,
Why this winter. Replacing the grips should only take a couple of hours. Take care Re: Best non stick rod handles.
