by green do you mean the color is green, or the wood is green i.e. not dried yet? Some sources for exotic turning woods would include Woodcraft Supply; Craft Supplies in Provo UT; Venneri sells wood blanks. Re: turning wood for fly rod

clemmens has an insert they call angler's green, pretty sharp, I don't know if they have that particular color available in a turning stock form, you will have to check with dick french. Re: turning wood for fly rod

Your description of the color sounds just like lignum vitae; South/Central Americas, a contender for the hardest wood known. The logs don't float in the river, making it hard to harvest. Used for mallets; fittings and bearing blocks in wooden ships; handplane soles. Hibdon carries it but won't sell small quantities; I agree Eisenbrant is my next choice. Re: turning wood for fly rod

thanks guys my fun thing to do is turn rare wood ito reel seat inserts.they bring a good price also.one wood i have used with no luck is Iron wood keeps splitting on me.oh well talk to you later regards John bratton Re: turning wood for fly rod
