Carbon fiber grip question

I am looking to install a carbon fiber grip on the butt end of a surf rod build. Based on the diameter of the blank and the preferred final grip diameter, the urethane core under the carbon fiber wrap would end up being only about 1/8" thick. Even assuming I could ream it out that thin without breaking it, is 1/8" too thin for a urethane core?
Is 1/8" thick cork tape a suitable alternative to urethane under a fiber wrap core? Re: Carbon fiber grip question

No it is not too thin. Once mounted, the blank will support it.
You can apply a carbon skin over nearly anything, although if you're going to use cork tape, why put carbon over it? Cork tape is pretty tough as is. Fairly long wearing. The skin will just add more weight, although on a surf rod it won't likely make any practical difference. .............. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
