I’ve caught quality fish of several saltwater and freshwater species on Torzite guides without issue. St. Croix put them on heavy salmon rods (I own one). Surfcasters use their high frame double footed guides on heavy outfits. These are made in up to a 40 ring size. That on a surf rod requires a lot of strength.
Some percentage of any product fails, especially when the product has a weight savings design parameter. The silicon nitride ring material is really strong as they make rocket motor bearings out of it. We had one of those bearings in the office for months and no one was able to damage it when challenged. Certainly a sphere is a tougher shape than a thin ring. I’m not doubting any story of loose or damaged rings. My point is that I personally won’t shy away from Torzite based on experience, Fuji’s reputation, and the materials involved.
