I am always looking to be different and was wondering if there is real value in using microwave guides on a baitcasting rod. I am willing to try them out and see for myself. Just curious how light they're compared to say a fuji Sic. Anyone have an opportunity to use them? Re: Microwave casting guides

Mark,
I can't imagine any reason why they would be any better than conventional guides. But, by all means try them out and let us know your results. Re: Microwave casting guides

I build a casting rod this spring with Microwave guides and I do think it cast better than conventional guides for distance. As of yet I don't have a day of fishing as my boats been in the shop for a month. I do plan on another build as a crank bait rod as I think that would be a great application. I have no experience with MW casting guides, but relative to "do they work?" both American Tackle and Fuji maintain that line coming off a casting reel, while different in motion from that coming off a spin reel, still can benefit from the proper guide and setup, especially the first couple guides.
I remember when micros first came out and many advocated simply running the same guide size all the way, but there was a builder who countered that the right way to do it was to use a (approx) 6mm guide first and the rod would work better. I believe he was right. Re: Microwave casting guides

He was right, and did enough comparison testing to prove it Re: Microwave casting guides

I built a Microwave Airwave casting rod for a family friend as a grad. gift. When I gave it to him I told him "your'e the guinea pig on this guide set, if you don't like them for any reason I'll change them to something else." This no rookie kid, he knows how to fish. It's been 4 years and I have told him the same thing twice since. He likes them. (7ft. bass rod) Re: Microwave casting guides

They work great for me, I also used them in a spiral wrap on a casting rod for a Fellow and he's Super happy with the performance. And when I have time, I will soon be building one for his buddy, The only limitation, I can see would be icing of the basket guide in cold freezing temps. But neither fish in those conditions.
