Putting together a couple MHX DR845 downrigger rods as gifts, just wondered if anyone could recommend guide sizes and suggested spacing as I don't see any recipe listed for it. Many thanks, appreciated! Re: DR845-MHX guide help

Use two larger guides near the reel and then use runners to the tip. Place a runner any where that it will be needed to keep the line off of a fully bent rod.
Since this is a down rigger rod and will not be used for casting you can likely use only one larger sized guide near the reel and the all of the rest of the guides can be the same size to the tip. Since this is a downrigger rod that will spend most of its fishing live in a big bend, it is very logical that this rod be wrapped in a spiral configuration. Also, by using a spiral wrap on the rod, you will be able to use much fewer guides to keep the line off of the rod and to keep the line following the arc of the bent rod. Good luck Edited 1 time(s). If you go to the Batson site, I bet they have a full recipe for their downrigger rods of similar length that will work, grip lengths govern guide spacing to a certain extent. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
