Hello it’s been about 25+ yrs since I built a rod and looking to get back to building some custom bass rods.
Would like to understand the breakdown on the NFC blanks. Several questions on the NFC blanks. I’ll use the MB736-1 (X-ray lmx) as an example. Seems all the blanks Bass, delta and classic have two letters before the #’s, MB, SA,SI,ST,P ,SB etc... need help understanding these 736-1 = 7’ 3” 6 power The IM, HM and SM are the modules rating , what line of blanks falls under the IM. I used the x-ray as an example thinking this is the top of the pecking order but was told not necessarily any thoughts? Called NFC several times went straight to voice mail, sent e mail and received a response saying they were very busy and they would have someone from sales call me still waiting but I understand they are swamped. Just like to get all the info I can on these blanks. Thinking about taking a class ( Mud Hole) since it’s been awhile also attending the expo for much needed info. Future rod builds: Texas rig , Crankbait, spinner bait etc... like to have nothing but custom rods in the boat. Also looking at the rainshadow blanks. Thank you for any input Re: NFC blank identification help

Definitely consider buying Rainshadow........a call to Batson is answered almost immediately and if there wasn't one of the tech guys available they always returned my call in a timely manner.
The Mudhole class would be a good hands-on refresher if you've built in the past but there is also a TON of video on the internet. Mudhole, Get Bit and FlexCoat all have videos that cover most basic rod building topics and there are plenty of others who post info as well. As for the Expo, attend if you can.........you won't be disappointed. The creativity that I have seen there is almost unbelievable. It's worth every cent. Re: NFC blank identification help

All those abbreviations are longtime standard discriptions, I believe the is a library article explaining their definitions. Re: NFC blank identification help

SM: Standard Modulus / Tensile Modulus (MSI) 33-35
IM: Intermediate Modulus / Tensile Modulus (MSI) 43-47 HM: High Modulus / Tensile Modulus (MSI) 50-85 Ref, Toray This basically refers to the strength of the fibers. The higher the modulus the less material and thinner tube wall thickness of the blank (less weight to achieve a common strength). This does not necessarily mean the blank will be stronger with HM, it is typically a combination of fiber, template, resin and build technique that will determine strength. As far as the MB (Mag Bass), SB, SA, etc. I would not worry about that too much because any of these types of blanks may be suitable for any application you may have in mind. I would base my choice on a blank by the action and power vs weight (final desired rod weight, weight of lure and balance). Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/10/2018 04:30PM by Lance Schreckenbach.
