Seen a few comments about this blank, was wondering if anyone else has built it and had thoughts on it. I've built the quickline in 5, 7, and 8, and while I like the blanks they are certainly fast. Listed weights seem a bit heavier than quickline but the blanks are also 3" longer. I need to build a 10' 6wt for myself and I need to build another 8 so if I could get some more feedback on this blank I'd appreciate it. Any ccs numbers available yet? Re: Pac Bay Arctos Fly

Matt,
Pac Bay has the CC specs for the Quickline blanks, if you ask they have the Arctos info for you. Re: Pac Bay Arctos Fly

I have built that blank and was really surprised over the performance of it compared to the Quickline. ERN came in at 6.35 with an AA of 75 Ron Weber Re: Pac Bay Arctos Fly

75 is faster than any Quickline I've built, so may we conclude that Artos is faster than Quickline? In fact 75 is significantly faster than any fly rod I've built, some of which are considered fast. Re: Pac Bay Arctos Fly

75 degrees is pretty fast, but I've had Sage, Dan Craft, TFO, G Loomis, and probably others I'm forgetting even faster. You wouldn't know it while casting them as a fast tip doesn't mean as much as the final power and what the blank was built out of does. Edited 1 time(s). I don't have any CC data on the Arctos but built two 10' 3" for #4 line blanks as primarily all around long rods. Don't have much moving water time but lots of high elevation lake tubing and shore line wading experience. This rod is not a feather light Euro nymph $$$$ super stick but it is powerful and casts floating and intermediate lines with up to #8 conehead bunny leeches just great.. Also single hand spey cast it with SA Spey Lite skagit and it fired versileaders and buggers really well. I think it is a more general trout action rod than a specialist soft tip stiff butt Euro nympher. It is pretty fast but it felt smooth and powerful from the first cast with a WF4F line. I found it easy to cast short or long and it's not a swing weight heavy wrist killer though it's not especially light. I've become a long rod advocate for high stick nymphing, swinging soft hackles/buggers and as a stillwater tool which the Arctos covers rather nicely The blank is pretty straight, ferrules fit good and the metallic brown color is attractive. I like it and it performs well beyond it's modest price. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
