I would like to paint a rod and like to know what you guys use? I've asked a few people, they recommend an automotive spray paint. I'd like to hear from my fellow rod crafters. Thanks in advance! Re: Rod painting.

Just about any spray paint works some take a bit longer to cure fully jut be sure you prep the blank properly The best day to be alive is always tomorrow !! Think out side the box when all else fails !!! Wi. Re: Rod painting.

Because I went to auto zone and I bought a can of dupli color primer and a can of paint. But the finish is a little soft, dried well but if I scrape my fingernail across it chips fairly easy. Re: Rod painting.

you didn't need the primer the paint would adhere to the blank
?did you lightly scuff the clear finish on the blank you can do it again if you choose or let it sit where it is warm for a few days and it should cure fully /harden The best day to be alive is always tomorrow !! Think out side the box when all else fails !!! Wi. Re: Rod painting.

I sanded with 240, 600, and 1500 grit. I first did it dry and then I wet sanded. Should I touch up the scratches and use permagloss? Thanks. Re: Rod painting.

Fernando,
If you are putting the PermaGloss on the paint you just put on, you may want to try a test piece first. PermaGloss may dissolve your paint. Take care, Chris Re: Rod painting.

I tried using rustoleum 2x that is good for plastic, i lightly sanded the existing paint, wiped with alcohol and painted the blank. The paint ended up looking pretty nice but after i did a cross weave on it and applied the color perserver to the thread it became wavy and flawed looking, after playing around with it a little i stripped all the paint off and found a nice looking blank down below, it was just like ripping up carpet and finding a beautiful hardwood floor.
