I have successfully inleted both the full and half wells CFX fly rod grips. I trace a circle slightly smaller than than the size of the inlet needed which is centered around the grips hole at the base of the grip. Using a Dremel tool with a grinding bit installed I enlarge the center hole until I get to the circle line. Once the carbon fiber is removed it becomes an easy matter to grind the hole to the proper depth and diameter. Slow and careful is the way to go, the foam core grinds extremely easy. Make sure to constantly check inlet size with the reel seat hood. Much easier than it sounds, and I have not screwed up any so far. I wear a respirator mask just to be safe, and usually do this outside just to keep the dust out of my shop. Only takes a few minutes. I have heard of people using the Crafty’s cutter grip inletting tool, but I have not used one on these grips. I am sure there are other ways to do this. But ithis way works for me. Good Luck.

I use the same technique and it works just fine. Make sure you where a mask, carbon fiber dust is nasty stuff. Re: CFX fly rod grip

Norman and John have it right. The dremel tool is the deal and something no rod builder should ever be without. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
