I read somewhere on this site about rods breaking from bouncing during transportation. I believe it spoke about the guys who transport them vertically in those pvc tubes on the truck bumper. In more recent times,I have seen mostly roof mounted systems.,and even magnetic mounts etc..
So my question is what is the best way to protect rods from a fracture during the ride,,,who makes a good system for the roof? Etc.. Re: Rod Transportation

most work well so long as the rods are supported well and have some cushioning in the holes where the rod sits and the butt of the rod with the weight of the reel is secured down so it doesn't bounce up and down on a horizontal transport carrier.
on the vertical ones I have seen they have a tie down that goes around the reel foot shaft so they don't bounce out of the up right tube you have to make sure that the reel foot doesn't rest on the rim of the tube so you don't break it off the reel. The best day to be alive is always tomorrow !! Think out side the box when all else fails !!! Wi. Re: Rod Transportation

I put my rods in the long plastic bags cut to fit, that can be found at, say, Mudhole. They then ride in a PVC tube, horizontally, butt forward. with a rolled up t-shirt at the end to protect the tips.
The plastic bags are not only effective against fracturing, but rubbing and chafing as well. Plus they are reusable. Re: Rod Transportation

I transport my surf rods to the coast in two pocket chamios bags in the camper topper. This protects against rubbing and chaffing. I have seen people running 75 mph on the way home with their rods still in the cooler racks, with rigs still attached. road dust and grime driven by high speeed gets inside those expensive reels that we only wish we could by "on sale" Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
