What sort of experience do people have on the new Black Pearl Recoils? Are the guides 'slippier' than the RSNXs? Does the coating wear out?
Many thanks! -Miki- Re: Recoil RSNX vs Black Pearl Recoil

I like the black pearl recoils, except for the tip top which is really heavy, which surprised me, and I think it might trap the line in the backcast. I skipped it. I have not been able to wear the recoils out yet. NRX from Gloomis use them on all their NRX rods except for the tip. So does Hardy on some of their rods. They do not make noise as RSNX does is my experience. I build two simular rods one with black pearl recoils (and Alps tip) and one with snake brand universal guides. Though the recoils are lighter, every part of the four piece rods when finished weighted, to my surprise, exactly the same. The reason I think is: the snake brand guides has a curve underneath the foot which fits the curve of the blank and there is no epoxy build up under the thread. The wire of the chrome snake guides is thicker than on the recoils. They are easier to wrap too, but nothing is as saltwater proof as recoils. Edited 3 time(s).
