Friends:
I need to ship a "shortie" tuna style rod to Juneau AK. The cardboard container (repurposed from a Mudhole one) will be about 5' long. What's the best way to ship? USPS? UPS? I would normally send it "ground", but mebbe Juneau is different in that its isolated from the US road system. Thanks in advance Whit Edited 1 time(s). Either the USPS or UPS would be able to inform you if the item can be sent via "ground" shipping. With the USPS, it may be that there is no additional charge regardless of the fact that it is not served by directly ground links - note that a first class stamp will send a letter to Hawaii for the same price as sending one to Florida. But again, they would be the ones to ask.

I lived in Alaska until my wifes medical condition had us move back to the lower 48. I used USPS exclusively for all my blanks and building supplies while I was there. USPS rates are the same to ship from the lower 48 to Alaska as they are to ship across town. I never understood why shippers always add a Alaska or Hawaii surcharge for shipping when the freight is the same. All Priority Mail arrived to Alaska in 3 days with a standard shipping fee. When I ship rods south to the lesser 48, I put them in a pvc tube inside the cardboard box. Cuz after 40 years of having stuff shipped up here, and seeing what condition things arrive in, ya don't really trust any shipper. Pesco Ergo Sum Re: Shipping rod to Alaska

My shipping and receiving experiences have dictated using Fedex almost exclusively. Fedex seems to handle their (my) packages more delicately. I have never had a problem with Fedex yet numerous problems with damaged shipments with the others. Mark Talmo FISHING IS NOT AN ESCAPE FROM LIFE BUT RATHER A DEEPER IMMERSION INTO IT!!! 2 1/2 PVC tube, bubble wrap both ends, blue caps wrapped with packing tape, US Postal Service, cheaper
, faster, safer...coming back from Alaska, now that's a different story.. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
