Looking for help finding a cork pistol grip. I have a HKC-1 on order from MudHole but it is back ordered until July. I have a rod due first part of July using a pistol grip. Trying to fill the gap in time. Any input would be appreciated. Re: Pistol Grip

Are you game to make your own? Or does it need to be a pre-formed model?

Schneiders Rod Shop has one listed under cork rear grips. Everyone else appears to be sold out.

Not up to trying to make one from scratch. I also do rod and reel repairs and being a one man shop can't invest the time this time of the year. Might be something I will try in the winter months. Re: Pistol Grip

Steve,
Look on page 127 in the Mud Hole Catalog--j ---Super Grade Cork Pistol Grip. I used one of these several months ago for a customer who wanted one on a short spinner bait build. I reamed all the way through the handle from the back side so it would fit the blank. I then filled the hole with a small cork, cut it off and sanded place smooth. Thanks Everyone!!
I called Mud Hole one last time before I pulled the trigger with Schneiders Rod Shop and they searched the warehouse and the retail shop. They found a kit for me and it is on the way. Just wanted to give Mud Hole credit for going above and beyond. I have always got great customer service from them. Lewis, I think I will checkout the pistol grip you recommended. Wondering if it is also back ordered since the kit and the grip are both CRB. I will be stocking some of these to avoid this in the future. Thanks Again. Re: Pistol Grip

I checked the mudhole site and the 5" super grade cork pistol grip was also out of stock. For future purchases, I would recommend against getting the kit, because you can pair the pistol grip by itself with almost any model of casting reel seat and fore grip of you choice (or lack of fore grip). This gives you more custom options than available with the kit.

I have and have used several pre-shapped pistol grips, but I'd be game to make my own. Is there an existing article/recommendation? Seems like block cork would be needed and a custom method of turning and shaping? Re: Pistol Grip

There was an article with photos in a past RodMaker from back in 2006. I'd have to look up the volume and issue number.

Hello Tom.
That would be volume 9, issue 3, page 28 for the one on "A Simple Casting Rod Pistol Grip" and volume 9 issue 4 page 29 for the "Fenwick Pistol Grip". Tight Wraps & Tighter Lines. Bob, New Bern, NC. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
