I can see them...Wish I could post a picture, but I'll describe mine in relation to yours:
As I'm at eye-level with the wrapper looking straight on at the dryer motor from the side, the dryer motor pulley's outer flange is perfectly aligned with the large pulley's groove's center. In other words, it's clear I have an alignment problem. With yours, does the bearing of the large pulley freely pop out? Re: Finish Divot Mystery Continued...

An example of a wrapper power unit, using a dc gear motor and a Taig headstock and a Taig chuck. Essentially 0 run out and essentially 0 wobble.
[www.rodbuilding.org] Another example of a home built wrapper using a Taig headstock and chuck, along with the typical motor as you have on your American tackle wrapper. [www.rodbuilding.org] This is a picture of the current power unit that I use for my own power wrapper. It is a Dc gear motor - inside the pvc pipe, with XL cogged pulleys on the motor and headstock. The headstock is made from a piece of nylon stock holding two ball bearings to support a keyless chuck having a 1/2 inch shaft that go into the 1/2 inch bearings mounted in the nylon stock: [www.rodbuilding.org] So lots of ways that you can power a rod on a power wrapper. But, no question about it - it is very nice to have a free turning headstock holding a chuck with 0 run out and a motor that can give the wrapper a perfect control over the speed of the headstock chuck. Be safe Re: Finish Divot Mystery Continued...

Steve
No, i've had no bearing problem and there is no wobble, no play or other movement indicative of a bearing issue. I do keep a spare O ring drive belt immediately at hand, and I've replaced the dryer motor once, and, judging from the sound of things, another dryer motor is in my near term future. I strongly suspect chemical contamination rather than mechanical trouble. Problems with rotation while curing epoxy will produce either a sag in epoxy on one side of the blank or continuous anomaly all the way around the circumference of the blank. Re: Finish Divot Mystery Continued...
