I am toying with the idea of putting finish on an EVA foam grip and then marbling. Any thoughts, tips, or experiences with doing such would be appreciated. Like so many of my projects, I have no idea of what I am doing! :) Thanks for any comments! IMHO not the best base material to use for the application The best day to be alive is always tomorrow !! Think out side the box when all else fails !!! Wi. Re: Putting epoxy finish on EVA foam grips???

I think the problem with EVA is that it is so soft that the surface will cave in. What you want to do will work fine with burl cork as the substrate, although it will be heavier than EVA and regular cork.
I believe even regular, high quality, filled cork will be strong enough for what you want to do. I assume you top the marbling with wrap epoxy, right? I've had wrap epoxy on a regular cork grip for about 8 years now and while it has yellowed, it is still structurally sound. Re: Putting epoxy finish on EVA foam grips???

Hello Hunter.
Yes it can be done, I've done it but it has a steep learning curve because the foam @#$%& in the epoxy and is full of bubbles, I put on an extremely thin but complete coat, if I get bubbles I cut them do a second coat the same way until I get no bubbles at all. As for the marbling you can start with the first coat after the no bubbles coat. Or you can get a scrap piece of foam and play with it yourself. Tight Wraps & Tighter Lines. Bob, New Bern, NC. Would a pre-treatment with a spray fixative mitigate that problem? Just curious. From ghoulies and ghosties, and long leggedy beasties, and things that go bump in the night, Good Lord deliver us! Re: Putting epoxy finish on EVA foam grips???

Hello Hunter.
It Might, but I never tried it, let us know what you find out. Tight Wraps & Tighter Lines. Bob, New Bern, NC. Re: Putting epoxy finish on EVA foam grips???

Never tried it, but magic marbling supposedly works well. Here is a video showing how to do it. There are also other videos out there.

It will work over eva. Some of the mad-swirl grips shown wth the magic marble paint on Mud Hole's site are over eva. Those are grips I did a long while ago. I also used rigid pour foam for some of them. Here is the abbreviated steps. Shape grip fill pores with thread finish I like to lightly sand after cured for smooth surface prime dip clear coat (riley rods epoxy 321 or thread finish) Feel free to give me a shout with any questions Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
