ive got an older rod that i decided to redo. when removing all of the old epoxy, i discovered that a large section of what i thought was a label ( fairly easy to remove ) was instead paint. can acetone be used to remove the paint without damaging the blank ? Re: paint removal on an old rod

Please read up on acetone before using, it is not exactly the safest solvent. Ray Zarychta Glastonbury, CT Re: paint removal on an old rod

Acetone won't damage the blank, but is indeed highly likely to remove the paint.

Any time that you use Acetone or Xylene or other highly toxic solvents that hurt if inhaled should only be used with a great deal of good outside ventilation, or better yet, out of doors with a good cross wind blowing to avoid inhaling any fumes. It is also a good idea to wear latex or similar gloves when using such solvents to avoid absorbing the chemicals through the skin on your hands and body.
Good luck Re: paint removal on an old rod

Citrus strip will work great without the fumes. Use a scotch rite pad and some elbow grease Re: paint removal on an old rod

i forgot about the citrus degreaser / solvent we have at work. i will give it a try. i am well aware of the hazards of acetone, and have used it in the past for other projects . i was more concerned with damaging the blank with acetone. thanks for everyones help ! Re: paint removal on an old rod

Citri-strip, don't be afraid to let it sit overnight. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
