I made a post on Jan.6 regarding low frame 2 ft. guides used as bumper guides (and the bending thereof) on simple spirals. You responded that bending guide frames was the thing to do as per an article in rodmaker magazine. Would you kindly provide me with the issue #? You said it was part of the first simple spiral article that appeared. Thanks, Lynn Re: For Spenser Phipps

Doing some a new kitchen so my rod room is now a storage space temporarily, my best guess was it was in volume 8, issue 2. It's in the CD about guides and placement methods Tom has put together.
Hope I helped. Re: For Spenser Phipps

O.K. fellas, I read Volume 8 issue 2 again this morning, (for the 4th time), this time as a proofreader and nowhere in that issue is there any mention of bending guide frames. Lynn (I don't want to start bending Sic guides just to later have the rings pop out.) Re: For Spenser Phipps

Isolate the ring area from the feet, and bend as needed. The ring will not be affected.
8-2 has the article on the Simple Spiral. I do not have the volume and issue number for the guide frame bending article. Someone else may chip in if they do. After 1000+ articles, it's hard to remember this stuff off the top of my head. ................. Re: For Spenser Phipps

There's an artical about it in volume 15 issue 6 but it's for single foot guides probably the same for double foot to? Re: For Spenser Phipps

Lynn,
Like everything in rod building there is no perfect article with all the info, but thankfully it's all in the archives of old posts. Not all guides are built the same, as you probably know Fuji Alconite guide frames were built to where they naturally lie closer to the blank than many other brands, or for that matter other Fuji guides. It was brought up almost immediately after we got to read the article, along with the problem of proper position and sizing of the first 180° guide to ensure it had a load on it and all the load wasn't going to the second guide and than down the guide train. Search "simple spiral" than find the first info around page 11 and go from there to pickup what we all learned along the way. Re: For Spenser Phipps
