What brand of epoxy are you using for the wet lay up phase? Since it is impossible to get anything from Riley Rods is The West System with the 207 hardener the best? Should it have uv stabilizers? Finally, when do you cut the reel seat recess in the grip and what tool is used to get accuracy to .01"?
Thanks Re: Carbon Fiber Epoxy

There are lots of epoxies out there now. I use a product called Resin Research for surfboard building and have used it for some rod building (handles, reel seats, even used it as finish on one rod). It's specifically made for wetting out fiberglass and and other reinforcement cloths. It has built in UV stablizers.
My experience is with the 2000 which is a high modulus resin. [resinresearch.net] Re: Carbon Fiber Epoxy

I cut the recess after the grip is finished and use a Forstner bit. 13/16" fits most reel seat recess collars, some times need to go larger. A Dremel tool with the sanding drum is great for any slight enlarging needed.
The West Systems work great. Re: Carbon Fiber Epoxy

West Systems 207 will work fine for lay-up and wet out.
