white blanks

Any one else find it much harder to eliminate the air bubbles form white blanks over wraps and decals not guides. I can finish multiple blanks in one sitting and the white always has air bubbles the black blanks are great.

I cannot see how the color of the blank could possibly make any difference.

David, How old was the thread you used? Did you keep it in a sealed container?Did you have clean hands while doing the build.?Did you place the decal on a bed of cured epoxy? Whats different from where the guides are that did not cause air bubbles? Are the white blanks of the same company as the black?

could it be as you apply epoxy on the white blank you don't see the bubbles you left an when you go back later, you can see them a lot better ,
as was point out early-er on this post the only thing that has changed is the blank , just a question

are you using a brush to apply the finish ?? try a mix stick
are you over mixing the finish??
sounds like it is soaking in to the thread and causing the bubbles are you sealing the wraps ?? with a color preserver or are you using ncp thread are you doing multiple coats of color preserver .
ncp thread tends to create bubbles in the finish coat because there is a gap between the guide foot and blank.

I have found thin build finish works best with ncp threads and apply several coats
high build is best when plain thread is used and color preserver is applied in 3 coats as for the color of the blank that should have no factor with the finish bubbling

The best day to be alive is always tomorrow !!
Think out side the box when all else fails !!!

I know it sound crazy trust me. Its not the air from under the wraps I can get those out. I cant see any air over the threads just over the white. Is it possible the left over air that becomes clear on the black blank is more visible on the white? I can epoxy over a black blank and it is 100 percent clear of air. I take it and place it under a strong light some of the supper small air bubbles become visible could the white just show those left over bubbles better. If that makes sense.

David

There are 3 sources of finish bubbles, none of which are blank color.

Bubbles can be created during the epoxy mix. Using an electric finish mixer can virtually eliminate that source of bubbles.

Bubbles can be created during application. If you are using a brush try cutting back them back by about 1/3 and make certain the brush is full of finish that flows off the brush - not is painted from the brush.

And finally, bubbles can be created by the thread where the thread traps air under a guide foot (usually larger easier to deal with bubbles) or the finish does not thoroughly penetrate the thread and tiny bubbles do not escape to the finish surface. Lots of variables here ranging from thread tension, manufacturer, type (nylon, NCP, silk. and poly). Some epoxy contains wetting agents to help here, but none are perfect nor do they fix all sources of bubbles. It is the tiny air bubbles trapped in the thread that can drive builders making clear wraps crazy.

Another source of affliction can be the temperature of the room, the finish, and the thread and blank. Epoxy flows better and cures faster if warm - 72 to 75 degrees. Cold reduces flow / increases viscosity and can significantly slow the cure.
