I am having issues with my epoxy being tacky after several hours of drying. I use syringes and measure and stir for three minutes like it says too. Most of the time it's good but just did a rod and it's tacky. What am I doing wrong? Can I fix what I've done? Re: Sticky epoxy

Define "several hours." This may be normal depending on the temperature where you're applying the epoxy. I would say the real test would be how does it seem a full 24 hours later. Assuming room temperature, it shouldn't be tacky 24 hours after it's been applied.

It's not been 24. I'll give it some more time. I build in my basement and of course it's a little cooler there too. I'll give it all night tonight and see what I have! Thanks Tom! Re: Sticky epoxy

Just for the heck of it, if you have any leftover finish in your mixing cup, bring that up into a warmer area and see how it feels in a few hours.

Matt
I too build in a basement - cool year round. A small, inexpensive space heater under the work bench can do wonders. Epoxy is temperature sensitive. Anything less than about 72 degrees can significantly increase the time to cure, especially so for those finishes with longer open time. Re: Sticky epoxy

It does not take much of a temperature reduction to prolong the curing time for epoxy. Can be especially true for light epoxy mix. Re: Sticky epoxy

Thanks all! I didn't realize it was that sensitive. Probably need to warm it up down there! I brought it upstairs and it already feels better Re: Sticky epoxy

Prokote can take over 24 hours to get to a really dry feel even in good temps. Since curing of epoxy is a chemical reaction the reaction time will double for about every 10 degrees C that you drop the temp. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
