No thread wrap over ferrule

I'm building a 2-pc Light spinning which I'm thinking of applying epoxy only, no thread, on the ferrule. Would just applying epoxy have enough strength to prevent split-out?
For a light rod I'm thinking it might be ok but what if it was a M or MH rod, would epoxy without thread wrap over ferrule be strong enough? Re: No thread wrap over ferrule

Some rods do not require a thread overwrap on the ferrule. It depends on whether or not the blank was made with an internal reinforcement. Some are and some aren't. Best to ask the manufacturer of your specific blank.

Hello Vong.
If you want the "clear" look you could use white silk with no cp and when you put the epoxy on the threads will disappear. Tight Wraps & Tighter Lines. Bob, New Bern, NC. Re: No thread wrap over ferrule

Another question is why risk a preventable failure by not wrapping with thread and encapsulating with finish, even if the manufacturer suggests ferrule wraps are not required? Ferrule wraps are low cost in terms of material and time, and are high reward in terms of failure probability reduction. By the way, epoxy or spar alone do not add so much reinforcement. it is the thread that is the primary source of reinforcement while the primary purpose of finish is to protect the thread. Another by the way thought. Even assuming the blank manufacturer represents their blank to be reinforced sufficiently to not need a ferrule wrap and provides a lifetime warranty against breakage, you still lose if the ferrule fails as the manufacturer's warranty does not include loss of use or your time and expense to rebuild on a replacement blank. If you're putting finish on it, why would you even consider not wrapping it first? Re: No thread wrap over ferrule

If you want to hide the wrap, choose a color of thread close to the blank color, wrap,
and put a thin coat of finish, no CP. Best wishes, Ron Schneider Schneider's Rod Shop Mountain Home, Arkansas [www.schneidersrods.com] mtnron40@yahoo.com 870-424-3381 Re: No thread wrap over ferrule

I always wrap the joint with thread and then apply finish to same thread. I generally wrap with thread color that closely matches the color of the blank when finish is applied. So very little down side to the idea of adding a wrap on the joint.
I normally never use CB and I also do not use NCP thread either for the same reason. I like the finished wrap to blend into the color of the blank. Good luck Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
