Hello rod builders. I need some help. I'm looking for a two-piece ultra lite 7 - 7.6' for bluegill fishing. I use only a split shot (#5) with a piece of night crawler/cricket on a # 8 hook. I use 4 - 6 lb test line with a Stradic 2000 reel. The blank needs to have a fast or extra fast tip that is a little stiff because I don't want any give in the rod when I set the hook. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have found several one piece but no two-piece. Also I don't want to spend over a $150 on the blank.
Thanks! Re: Need an Ultra Light Blank

By definition a true ultralight x fast rod blank would have a soft tip. Re: Need an Ultra Light Blank

Don't know if price matters, but for the money I like the MHX S781 rods. Re: Need an Ultra Light Blank

Kerry,
My choice would be a 7'6" 2 piece 4 weight fly rod blank. St Croix 42F764.2 Other fly rod blanks from different manufacturers are available. Either a 4 or 5 weight would be sufficient for this style fishing. You could also build as a convertible rod for fly/spin Gene Re: Need an Ultra Light Blank

As mentioned above by Chris the St Croix ULs are nice. Also look at the Phenix Elixir Trout/panfish blanks.

I have used a St. Croix 3S70MLF2 (with 1/32 oz jig + plastic minnow, and heavier lures with 4 lb. test mono), and a 2S60ULF2 for a long time. They have worked well for my purposes. So I think the 2S70ULF mentioned above would work well for you. Re: Need an Ultra Light Blank

Bushido SJ72/4-8 I believe will be offered in a 2-piece soon. I use the one-piece. I use pretty much the same setup as you when fishing for red-ear with a size larger hook. This rod has a nice light tip, but also has some backbone too it. I have bass guys using it for ned rigs. This is not a noodle rod blank. Re: Need an Ultra Light Blank

The St. Croix 3S76MLXF-2 has a true ultralight tip with the backbone to do many things, a very versatile 7 1/2 Ft. 2 pc.blank. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
