I am old and slow when running finish. I just bought a new fixture from Mudhole that will let me turn 1 section at a time in the dryer. I was interested in the cooling your finish idea. I will be running finish tomorrow, and was looking for some way to cool things down. I opened the freezer thinking a jell ice pack. I found a plastic ice pack that is part of a salad for lunch pack. It had a hole in the middle that looked just about right. Yep, the cups from the Pac Bay epoxy mixer fits perfect. I will be trying this tomorrow, and report back. Mike Bradfrod R.M.B. Happy to hear that changing the finish solved your problem. Aftcote is a very nice finish, and does not yellow as much as some other finishes. Just remember that a longer pot life means it will take longer to cure so you will need to turn longer. Just finger test your unused finish to judge when to stop rotating.

i always let it turn a min. of 12 hours. overkill maybe but what else has the rod got to do with its time? Re: extending finish pot life

Jack
Ditto to what Norm said again. I was happy to hear that it worked out for you. My experience is that Aftcote usually takes about 12 hours to cure so you should be good to go, not over kill for this product. I hope you liked how easy it was to apply as well and you should have gotten a nice smooth coat too. Tom Re: extending finish pot life
