Hi All,
I'm having a real hard time finding a fighting butt for my TRI-AH12MTR triangle fighting butt by ALPS. Please let me know if anyone has experience with a fighting butt either removable or permanent for this reel seat ( ID .515 in.) This is for a 9ft 9wt saltwater FLY rod. Many Thanks!! Take a look at the REC fighting butts. They used to be available with or without hardware. Re: ALPS triangle 12 fighting butt? Fly rod seat HELP!!

For a permanent fighting butt just buy the one you like, bore it to match the OD of the blank, let the blank stick out about an inch from the seat, and glue the permanent one on the blank. If you have already glued the seat on, then it gets tougher. Find a section of old rod that matches the ID of the blank, bore the fighting butt to fit that glue the section into the blank and the fighting butt onto the section. Doug, how is that butt knob attached? Very handsome rod, by the way. Re: ALPS triangle 12 fighting butt? Fly rod seat HELP!!

I turned down a short piece of 1/2 inch aluminum rod to 1/4 inch diameter -- I left a flange 1 inch from one end to butt the cork rings up -- threaded the short end -- I then made a aluminum ferrule to fit the inside of the butt end then drilled and threaded it then glued it in. I have made fighting butts in several different lengths for different applications on these rods.
I will add some photos when I make another removable butt. Thanks for the comments. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 08/13/2016 08:10AM by Doug Cox. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
