I used an 8 weight for pike in The Boundary Waters Canoe Area in upper Minnesota. I also used a wire leader. For Bass you could go a bit lighter and not have to use a wire leader.

I'd say it depends on the size you're targeting, I use a 5wt for smaller river bass and trout around my area. Re: Bass Fly rod length and wgt

Pike and largemouth bass, if I had one rod, it would be a 9 wt. Sliders in lily pads, Dahlberg Divers, Hair Frogs, streamers it will do it all for both fish. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
