Spine up or down

Should the spin on a flipping rod be located on the top or bottom becasause it will be a flipping rod and not a casting rod and it needs to be stiff as it is a heavy action rod unlike a normal rod. Tom will tell you to not worry about the spine and just build on the straightest portion. If you're worried about the spine then the rod still bends the same way so you would still put the spine the same way as the casting rod. Re: Spine up or down

I won't make any practical difference. However, if you're trying to find and use the blank's stiffest axis, which will neither be spine nor the opposite of the spine, you might want to read this:
