Hi all,

Im trying my hand at building a 6wt fly rod for freshwater bass fishing. Ive been looking around for blank suggestions. Casting distance will be key, as the place i fish has very clear water and the fish are easily spooked. I gotta be able to reach them from a distance. Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

I built a 6wt. rod on a 9' MHX blank a few years ago. With a WF7F line and a small popper I can still get it to cast 90". I have no fears recommending that blank for performance or price.

Also, how much is to much to cut off the butt end of a 2pc rod? I found a great blank but its a 10'. Is it ok to cut 12in off the but end to get it to the length i want?

Will -
I would keep looking at different blanks before I took the step of cutting the blank. You will change the "action" and the "feel" if you cut it. There are lots of manufacturers and distributors

Another good choice would be the Bingham Ent SHX in the 9' 7wt especially if there will be any size to the bass at all.

OOPS! I meant 90 feet, not 90 inches.
