I love the look of this texalium tubing but I have concerns about the durability of it going in and out of medal Rod holder. These are the Rod holders on party/head boats. I think this stuff is coated with aluminum so maybe it has some measure of resilience? Anybody know? Thank!! Re: Texalium but in Rod holder?

Mike,
The tubing will be fine, but there is a good bet that the outer finish will get damaged by continued use of a grip like this in a rod holder. If you want to use this rod in a rod holder, use a grip wrap on the grip to protect it. [www.mudhole.com] You could try a shrink wrap, but I would do it with caution because I don't know if the heat from the heat shrink would have an effect on the finish on the tex aluminum. Thanks Roger! Yeah maybe I'll put this Winn grip stuff over it. I'd rather not but... Re: Texalium but in Rod holder?

Mike,
The Batson clan has used the silver Texalium a lot on their rods, they may be able to answer all your questions Re: Texalium but in Rod holder?

We use Texalium tubing quite a bit up here on our downrigger rods, use it like a slick butt. There’ll be a some wear on them over time, just like any grip, but they’ll hold up just fine. Re: Texalium but in Rod holder?

I've used a couple of these handles on downrigger rods and really like them. I had a build get ruined by my cat, long story lol. But in dismantling the rod and trying to save some components I tested the handle by smacking it on the edge of my workbench as hard as i could several times and didnt even leave a mark. No doubt a very durable handle. Mark Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
