Got the itch to start painting my own reel seats the other day and wouldn't ya know I feel head over heels into doing it. These are all just testers I will be using for long term durability tests of the process and to get my work flow down but man I'm loving the results. I put some of these out on facebook already.
All these were painted with House of Kolor paints with several primer coats sanded back to 600 grit and 3 coats of a 2 part house of kolor clear coat. [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] [www.rodbuilding.org] Re: Painting some reel seats

Looks good! How were they done, air brush, spay can, bristle brush? I assume there is no problems with the treads Let us know how they hold up.

This was all done with an airbrush. Primer was rattle can out of simplicity. So far in general shop testing they are doing great. No there is no issues at all with the nuts threading on and off. They are tighter then unpainted but to me that isn't a negative. They seem to engage a little better. I've had one at my office all day just threading the nut on and off the seat and so far no sign of the paint pulling off. As the clear cures more it'll only get more durable. I did have an issue with the blue one getting some orange peel but that was my fault. Had to wsh the kiddos and let the clear sit to long before spraying and it started to gum up in the gun. Live and learn. Re: Painting some reel seats
