Cork tape over eva foam?

Hi all,
Just looking to see if anyone has put cork tape over EVA foam and how it worked out? I love cork tape but the handle is too thin. If I can put it over foam then it would save weight vs multiple layers of tape. Thanks!!

I worked at a big box outdoor store for a while. Their name brand rods were just that. Cork colored EVA foam with a thin veneer of cork tape on top.

You may find that you get a lot of movement under the cork from the EVA. This can cause separation of the tape where it's been wound on. Multiple layers of tape can get heavy.

There are other, better, solutions. A cheap grade of cork turned to the size you prefer and then overwound with cork tape is a good bet. You can install and turn rigid foam arbors and achieve the same thing. The main thing to keep in mind is that the grip material you wind the cork tape onto needs to be fairly rigid for best results.

Thanks guys. I'm going to start looking for ridged foam arbors. Thanks for the input. I am going to get some win tape also to see what that's about.

What about cork tape, spiral 100-120 pound test and glue over the cork tape, and then shrink wrap? Just a though and works for me.
